A century of community care
From a shelter on Clark Street during the 1918 epidemic to today’s facility on Viger Avenue.

The origins of the Montreal Chinese Hospital date back to 1918 during the influenza epidemic. With the support of Mother Marie du Saint-Esprit and the Sisters of the Immaculate Conception, the first shelter opened on Clark Street.
In 1971, the Hospital became public and was restructured into three entities, including the Montreal Chinese Hospital Foundation. A $2.6 million capital campaign later made possible the current facility at 189 Viger Avenue East, which opened in 1999.
