Becoming a Resident
Information for seniors and families exploring long-term care at the Montreal Chinese Hospital.
The Montreal Chinese Hospital Foundation supports the Hospital through fundraising and community initiatives. Resident admissions are coordinated through Quebec’s public health and social-services system.
Who is it for?
Who is long-term care for?
Long-term care is generally considered when a senior can no longer safely remain at home or in a private residence because of their health, living environment or family situation.
The Montreal Chinese Hospital’s main role is to provide long-term care to older adults with loss of autonomy, and it has a longstanding role serving Chinese and Southeast Asian elderly communities in Quebec.
Meeting these circumstances does not guarantee admission to the Montreal Chinese Hospital. A professional assessment is always required.
Step by step
How the admission process works
Step 1
Contact your CLSC
A health or social-services professional can assess the senior’s needs and determine whether long-term care may be appropriate.
Step 2
Assessment and referral
If long-term care is recommended, the placement request is handled through the appropriate public healthcare process. If the person is already hospitalized, the hospital care team may also start the referral.
Step 3
Placement review
The Montreal Chinese Hospital may be considered as a placement option, depending on the person’s care needs, eligibility, availability and the public placement process.
Step 4
Hospital follow-up
For questions specifically about long-term care at the Montreal Chinese Hospital, contact the Hospital’s care team directly, not the Foundation.
Wait times and places on the waiting list cannot be predicted; questions about a request in progress go to your social worker.
